Eric Dunning’s DLitt honoris causa

On 10 July, the University conferred on Eric Dunning the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa – a fitting tribute from the university where Eric has spent his whole life since arriving there as a first-year student in the mid-1950s. The next issue of Figurations will contain two photographs of the occasion, but you can also watch an edited video of the ceremony on Facebook, at

Apart from noting the relatively involved feelings of pleasure for Eric, may I also make the relatively detached observation that the film shows that the British stil;l know how to do ceremonial.

By the way, Figurations 40 is very late, mainly because first the editor’s .and then the typesetter’s holidays intervened. But it should be in the post to you any day now.
